The bachelor in question at this club was the legendary Robert Burns. The bard’s poetry is much celebrated and revered, while his reputation as a cad in his personal life has made for many a colourful tale. Here you can visit the room in which Rabbie and his closest friends would gather to debate the issues of the day. It was he who co-founded the Tarbolton Bachelors’ Club, for gentlemen only. This is the venue in which he learned to dance and practiced his freemasonry. The rooms give us a peek into life during Burns’ time, with a living area downstairs and the club room on the first floor. This 17th-century thatched building has been carefully restored and is completely free to visit. It provides a valuable and educational point of interest to anyone intrigued by Scottish history or literature.
